The St. Elias Seniors and Elders Society (SESES) has been providing support, community activities, and services to the community of Haines Junction / Dakwäkäda area for over 20 years.
We invite all seniors and elders, young or not so young, to join us – whether you are new to our community or long-time residents there is a place for you – you are all welcome!
The Yukon Government’s vision of the Aging in Place Action Plan is to ensure that Yukoners can access the supports needed to live safe, independent, and comfortable lives in their own home, their own community for as long as possible, regardless of age, income, or ability level.
The St. Elias Seniors and Elders Society plays a key and very significant role for our community at large. The Society collaborates closely with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations Community Wellness Department.
The Society has been extremely successful in providing access for seniors and elders to recreational, social, health, welfare, and educational activities.
These are important for all ages but especially so for both younger and more mature seniors and elders.
Our regular fitness and health activities include chair yoga, carpet bowling, walking, trail hikes, collaboration with the Haines Junction Health centre, mental health providers as well as visiting health care professionals such as foot care, hearing tests, nutrition, and others as our community requires.
On the social front, the SESES organizes weekly social hours, games times, regularly scheduled lunches / dinners and special events throughout the year coinciding with holiday events and important milestones in the community. Outings to local landmarks are especially important.
