Haines Junction was incorporated as a municipality in 1984, holding the first meeting as a municipality on October 9, 1984.
Until recently, Municipal elections were held every three years in October. With changes to the Municipal Act in 2022, terms were extended by one year. Starting with this fall's election, terms will be four years in length.
Yukon government has announced the legislated dates for the 2024 Municipal Election. The next municipal election will be on October 17, 2024.
